Groundbreaking and Site Blessing of New Santo Niño Candle House

Today, July 19, 2025, the Augustinian friars, together with local leaders and residents, gathered for the Groundbreaking and Site Blessing of the New Santo Niño Candle House in Greenhills, San Fernando, Cebu.

The ceremony began with a prayer led by Rev. Fr. King Nepangue, OSA, followed by welcome remarks from Rev. Fr. Candido Saladaga, Jr., OSA, Superior of Ecce Homo Residence, who shared the history of the candle house and how this transfer to the new site has been in the making for years. In his message, he shared that “Every lighted candle lights the hearts of each other and can serve as the light of faith.”

Barangay Captain Hon. Rovin Giaco Borinaga expressed his gratitude to the friars, saying “Greenhills is blessed because the Santo Niño is here with us,” and noted how the candle house will bring both spiritual and economic blessings to the community.

The groundbreaking was led by Very Rev. Fr. Andrew P. Batayola, OSA, together with Augustinian friars and local officials. In his reflection, Fr. Batayola reminded all that our true foundation is Jesus Christ, and that candles symbolize sacredness and prayer, lifting our intentions to God.

The event concluded with a message from Fr. John Ion C. Miranda, OSA, who called this moment “a new beginning in our service,” and encouraged all to pray for the continued growth of this mission.

With faith as our guide and the Santo Niño as our light, this new candle house begins its journey and will be built for prayer, for people, and for God.
