Online Webinar Series: From Sinner to Saint—A Story of God’s Never-Ending Mercy

April 27, 2026

The Augustinian Family gathers online for an evening of prayer, reflection, and formation through the webinar series “From Sinner to Saint: A Story of God’s Never-Ending Mercy,” highlighted by a talk delivered by Rev. Fr. Roner M. Anildes, OSA, of the Augustinian Province of Sto. Niño de Cebu–Philippines, currently assigned at St. Augustine’s Priory in Drogheda, Ireland.

The program opens with prayer, followed by a message from the Prior Provincial, Very Rev. Fr. Andrew P. Batayola, OSA, who situates the gathering within the celebration of the 1640th Anniversary of the Conversion of St. Augustine of Hippo. He emphasizes that Augustine’s journey from sin to sanctity stands as a living witness to God’s boundless mercy, continually calling every person to conversion and deeper communion with grace.

In his talk, Fr. Anildes reflects on the enduring relevance of Augustine’s life, affirming that no one is ever too far from God’s mercy. He speaks of the human tendency toward incurvatus in se—the inward turning of the self through sin—and contrasts this with God’s persistent invitation toward healing, restoration, and communion. Drawing from the parable of the prodigal son, he reminds the participants that God continually calls each person to return, regardless of how far one has strayed.

He also highlights the quiet yet powerful witness of St. Monica, whose steadfast prayer and perseverance accompany Augustine’s long journey of conversion. Her example stands as a testament to hope rooted in trust in God’s providence.

Fr. Anildes further underscores that conversion is often gradual and interior, marked by struggle and grace, yet always sustained by God’s patient love. It is an ongoing invitation to surrender, to return, and to begin anew in the mercy of God.

The evening concludes with an open forum, messages of gratitude, and a closing prayer, followed by the communal singing of the Hymn of the Province.

May the witness of St. Augustine continue to inspire hearts to trust in God’s never-ending mercy and to embrace, with courage and humility, the ongoing journey of conversion.
