Santo Niño Kaplag: Finding God in Our Everyday Life

Tolotolo, Consolacion — April 28, 2026

The Santo Niño Spirituality Center holds a Day of Recollection in celebration of the annual Kaplag Festival, gathering the faithful in a spirit of prayer, reflection, and gratitude under the theme “Kaplag: Finding God in Our Everyday Life.”

The recollection brings together members of the Cofradia del Sto. Niño de Cebu – Mother Chapter, devotees from the Ecce Homo Chapel in San Fernando, Greenhills, religious sisters, lay collaborators (including lectors and cantors of the Santo Niño Spirituality Center), Associates of St. Rita, and the youth of Barangay Tolotolo, Consolacion. The gathering becomes a living expression of faith and communion, rooted in devotion to the Santo Niño de Cebu.

Through prayer, reflection, and faith sharing, the participants are invited to contemplate the historical and spiritual significance of the Kaplag—the discovery of the sacred image of the Santo Niño—and to recognize how this event continues to inspire the faithful in their daily search for God present in ordinary life.

Rev. Fr. Ric Anthony Reyes, OSA facilitates the morning input session, tracing the historical origins of the feast and deepening its meaning through the lens of Augustinian spirituality. He emphasizes that the experience of Kaplag is not only a remembrance of a historical event but also a spiritual invitation to continually rediscover God in the midst of daily encounters, struggles, and joys.

In the afternoon, Fr. Reyes presides over the Eucharistic Celebration, concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Jack Luna, OSA and Rev. Fr. Candido Saladaga, OSA. The celebration is enriched by moments of silence, personal prayer, and Eucharistic Adoration, during which participants are also given the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

The Day of Recollection forms part of the ongoing mission of the Santo Niño Spirituality Center to deepen devotion to the Santo Niño de Cebu through meaningful formation programs, spiritual exercises, and encounters that lead the faithful toward a more conscious and lived experience of God in everyday life.
