The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Alberto S. Uy, currently the bishop of the Diocese of Tagbilaran since 2016 as the new archbishop of the Archdiocese of Cebu.
The archbishop-elect was born in 1966 in Ubay, Philippines and was ordained a priest in 1993. He studied philosophy at the Immaculate Heart of Mary seminary of Tagbilaran City and theology at the St. John Mary Vianney Theological seminary of Cagayan de Oro City, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in theology and a master’s degree in pastoral ministry. He also holds a licentiate in sacred theology from the Loyola School of Theology in Quezon City.
He has served in a number of pastoral roles in the diocese of Talibon including parish vicar, dean of seminarians at the Immaculate Heart of Mary seminary of Tagbilaran City; and vice-rector of the St. John Mary Vianney theological seminary in Cagayan de Oro City.
He succeeds Archbishop Jose S. Palma, whose resignation from the pastoral care of the Archdiocese of Cebu was accepted by the Holy Father.
