Chrism Mass 2026 in Cebu | Renewal of Priestly Vows at Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral

The Archdiocese of Cebu gathers in a spirit of solemn thanksgiving and ecclesial unity at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral for the sacred celebration of the Chrism Mass and the Renewal of Priestly Vows.

Clergy from across the Archdiocese, including friars from various Augustinian communities in Cebu, join diocesan priests and members of religious congregations in this significant liturgy, manifesting the communion of the presbyterate with their bishop and with the whole People of God.

Traditionally celebrated during Holy Week, the Chrism Mass stands as a privileged moment in the life of the Church, during which the holy oils—the Oil of the Sick, the Oil of Catechumens, and the Sacred Chrism—are solemnly blessed and consecrated. These sacred oils are to be used throughout the year in the administration of the sacraments, becoming visible signs of God’s grace at work in the lives of the faithful.

Within the same celebration, priests renew the promises made at their ordination, reaffirming their commitment to serve Christ and His Church with fidelity and pastoral charity. This renewal stands as a profound witness to their sacred calling, rooted in the love of the Good Shepherd.

In his homily, Most Rev. Alberto S. Uy, DD, Archbishop of Cebu, invites the clergy and the faithful to reflect more deeply on the mystery of the priesthood as both gift and responsibility entrusted by Christ. He exhorts the priests to continual renewal in their vocation, encouraging them to persevere in faith, remain steadfast in hope, and be ever generous in charity despite the trials of ministry.

As the Church enters more deeply into the sacred days of Holy Week, this celebration serves as a reminder of the unity of the Church and the enduring presence of Christ, who continues to sanctify His people through the ministry of His priests.
