Fr. Andres Rivera, Jr., O.S.A. was elected as the next Prior Provincial of the Order of St. Augustine in the Province of Sto. Nino de Cebu-Philippines for the next 4 years.
Fr. Rivera is currently the house prior of the Monasterio de Guadalupe (San Agustin Seminary) and at the same time the parish priest of the Nuestra Senora de Gracia Parish in Makati City. He also leads the province as the chairman of the Commission on Pastoral Life.
The 42-year-old Cebuano provincial-elect had been been visiting the different Augustinian communities in the country and meet the friars for dialogue before he formally takes office at the forthcoming 9th Ordinary Provincial Chapter on 2nd-6th May at Sto. Nino Spirituality Center, Cebu.
For 17 years of being a solemn professed friar, he had been involved in the various commissions of the Province, which are the arms of the Province’s apostoalte. He is a parish administrator and a formator in his present assignment.
Fr. Rivera takes over the office from Prior Provincial Eusebio B. Berdon, OSA, who had served for two consecutive terms. Fr. Berdon was actually the first prior provincial when the province was inaugurated in 1984. Before his reelection in 2008 he was one of the Assistant General of the Order.
