“Hardin sa Kapilya” Launched to Promote Sustainable Agriculture

GUBAT, SORSOGON – The St. Augustine Parish of Cogon officially launched the “Hardin sa Kapilya” initiative on February 22, 2025, aiming to educate the Catholic community on sustainable agriculture and its practices. Spearheaded by the Commission on Service, chaired by Mr. Larry E. Arguelles, the activity underscores the Church’s commitment to food security and environmental stewardship.

The event featured expert discussions led by Dr. Cristy Jintalan and Mr. Al Alcantara from Sorsogon State University – Castilla Campus, who highlighted sustainable agricultural practices and their benefits. Meanwhile, Mr. Roy E. Las Piñas from the Gubat Municipal Agriculture Office provided insights into local programs and services supporting sustainable farming.

Fr. Aladdin P. Luzon, OSA, spiritual director of the parish service commission, emphasized that the initiative seeks to empower the faithful to actively engage in sustainable food production as a means to combat hunger.

With this launch, St. Augustine Parish strengthens its mission to integrate faith and sustainability, encouraging the community to embrace responsible agricultural practices for a better future.
