7 Augustinian Friars Ordained as Deacons at Santo Niño Basilica

Augustinian Deacons

In a solemn and prayerful ceremony, seven Augustinian friars were ordained to the Sacred Order of Deacons on November 9, 2024, at the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu. The sacred rites were presided over by His Excellency, Most Rev. Jose S. Palma, D.D., Archbishop of Cebu, who delivered an inspiring homily emphasizing faith and trust in God.

Archbishop Palma reassured the newly ordained deacons with these uplifting words: “Don’t worry! Have faith because the Lord who calls you… will give you the grace that you need in the performance of your duties.” He urged them to rely on God’s unwavering guidance and strength as they begin their ministry, emphasizing that the divine call is always accompanied by the grace to fulfill it.

The ceremony was a profound and transformative moment for the seven friars following the rites of ordination, including the Promise of the Elect, Litany of Supplication, Laying on of Hands, Prayer of Ordination, Vesting with Stole and Dalmatic, and the Handing on of the Book of the Gospels. These rites signify their consecration to a life of service, proclaiming God’s word, and guiding His people with humility and compassion.
