1565

Arrival of the first Augustinian missionaries in the Philippines led by friar-navigator, Fray Andres de Urdaneta, OSA.

1575 March 7

Creation of the Augustinian Province in the Philippines under the title Santisimo Nombre de Jesus de Filipinas – Most Holy Name of Jesus of the Philippines.

1898

Transfer of the seat of the Most Holy Name of Jesus Province from Manila to Madrid in 1898 and the creation of the Augustinian Vicariate of the Philippines.

1904
July 15

Foundation of the University of San Agustin – Iloilo formerly known as Colegio de San Agustin.

1947 June 28

Founding of the Colegio del Santo Niño.

1953 March 1

Colegio de San Agustin was conferred with a “University” status and known as University of San Agustin – Iloilo.

1962 July 8

Foundation of Colegio San Agustin – Bacolod

1965 April 1

Declaration of the San Agustin Church/Santo Niño Church as Basilica del Santo Niño and at the same time confirmation of the basilica as the official shrine of the miraculous image of Santo Niño de Cebu.

1970 June 29

Canonical establishment of the Augustinian religious house at the Nuestra Señora de Gracia Parish in Guadalupe Viejo, Makati.

1983 December 25

Canonical establishment of the new Province of Santo Niño de Cebu – Philippines with Rev. Fr. Eusebio B. Berdon, OSA as the first Prior Provincial. Originally 37 friars were affiliated to the new Province.

There were 5 established houses handed over to the Santo Niño Province:  1. Basilica convent and School of Santo Niño de Cebu, 2. University of San Agustin – Iloilo, 3. Colegio San Agustin – Bacolod, 4. San Jose Parish and School in Iloilo, 5. Monastery and Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Makati City,

In addition, San Agustin Center of Studies in Quezon City (still under construction). 

For a time since its creation, the seat of the Province was in San Agustin Intramuros.

Later, the San Agustin Center of Studies became the seat from 1984 November to 1990.

1984 January 6-8

Part 1 of the First Ordinary Provincial Chapter was held at San Agustin Convent, Intramuros, Manila.

1984 January 15

Inauguration of the Province of Santo Niño de Cebu – Philippines at the Basilica More del Santo Niño de Cebu, Cebu City.

Together with the First Prior Provincial, Fr. Eusebio B. Berdon, OSA, the following officials were officially installed: Counselors – Fr. Ambrosio Jamero Galindez, OSA, Fr. Bernardino Renomeron Ricafrente, OSA, Fr. Rogelio del Rosario Obja-an, OSA, and Fr. Rodolfo Pingol Sicio, OSA. Fr. Melchor Laguartilla Mirador, OSA was installed as Provincial Secretary, and Fr. Rogelio Obja-an as Provincial Treasurer.

1984 April 9 – 14

 Part 2 of the First Ordinary Provincial Chapter was held  at the University of San Agustin, Iloilo City.
