On October 3, 2023, Waters Corporation announced the establishment of the first mass spectrometry imaging center in the Philippines at the University of San Agustin.
This center is equipped with advanced technologies from Waters, including a Waters ACQUITY UPLC System and a Waters SYNAPT HDMS, made possible through a grant from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development.
The SYNAPT HDMS combines MALDI and DESI technologies, enabling researchers to visualize molecules in human or animal tissue samples, which will aid in drug discovery for cancer and infectious diseases.
It was last year, May 24, 2022, when the University inaugurated its four world-class facilities.
Among them is the Mass Spectrometry Imaging Facility purchased from the Waters Corporation through the DOST grant-aid program.
