University of San Agustin Inaugurates Archives and Museum

USA Archives and Museum

A historic event unfolded at the first university in Western Visayas; the University of San Agustin Archives and Museum was formally inaugurated and blessed.

On November 8, 2022, the university community gathered to celebrate the opening of this illustrious institution that stands as the official repository of Filipino-Augustinian legacy and the custodian of West Visayan historical and cultural heritage.

Located on the 3rd floor of the Fray Luis de Leon, OSA Building, the University Archives and Museum is more than just a collection of artifacts; it’s a portal into the rich history and culture that have shaped both the university and the Ilonggo community.

This institution promises to be an invaluable resource for students, staff, and visitors, offering a deeper understanding of the University of San Agustin and the vibrant tapestry of Ilonggo culture. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, an art lover, or simply curious about the heritage of this region, the University Archives and Museum has something to offer everyone.

To make this cultural treasure accessible, an entrance fee of PhP50.00 is levied for regular walk-ins and PhP30.00 for non-USA student walk-ins. However, the doors are open wide and free of charge for University of San Agustin students and personnel, a gesture that underscores the university’s commitment to education and cultural preservation.

The University Archives and Museum is open Monday to Friday, welcoming visitors at 8:30 a.m. and bidding adieu at 4:30 p.m.

Before the grand opening on November 8, 2022, the museum offered a sneak peek during its soft opening from October 3 to October 7, 2022. This prelude allowed early visitors to glimpse the treasures that awaited within its walls and generated buzz within the university and local community.

The inauguration ceremony was a grand affair, attended by the Augustinian friars led by the University President, Rev. Fr. Frederick Comendador, OSA, faculty, personnel, and students. Their presence underscored the significance of this milestone and the university’s commitment to its cultural and educational legacy.
