The University of San Agustin (USA) Archives and Museum commemorated the 450th anniversary of the finding of the Ecce Homo de Cebu by opening its doors to the ‘Ecce Homo’ exhibit. The exhibit can be viewed from March 3 to April 28 on the 3rd floor of the Fray Luis de Leon, OSA Building.
The exhibit, curated by Rev. Fr. Dominador Besares, OSA, the USA Archivist and Museum Curator, was originally from the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu and is now temporarily housed in the university’s museum as part of USA’s 70th celebration.
Rev. Fr. Mamerto Alfeche, OSA, a member of the USA – Iloilo Community, in his opening remarks, expressed that the exhibit is timely, especially during the season of Lent, as it can aid in the reflection and meditation on the suffering of Jesus, who is the icon of Ecce Homo.
The program commenced with a ribbon cutting ceremony, with Fr. Besares, Fr. Alfeche, Mr. Franklin Rubin, and Mr. Francisco Avanceña Gangoso Jr. in attendance.
The Augustinians in the Philippines celebrated in 2022 the 450th anniversary of the finding of the image of Ecce Homo in Cebu since its discovery on August 20, 1572. An exhibition was housed at the former Santo Niño religious store for four months.
