Fray Enrique U. Sagum, OSA

Fray Enrique Sagum, whose parents were Severino Sagum and Josefina Ubaldo, was born in Makati City, Metro Manila, Philippines on July 15, 1960. He joined the Order on June 1979 at the San Agustin Seminary in Guadalupe Viejo, Makati, Metro Manila, entered the novitiate on June 1983 and took his first vows at the same place on June 4, 1984. He belonged to the first group of newly professed who were affiliated to the newly created Province of Santo Niño de Cebu – Philippines.

Four years later he made his solemn profession on June 18, 1988 at San Agustin Center of Studies in Quezon City, Metro Manila. Aside from basic philosophy and theology which courses the Province requires of candidates for brotherhood, Fray “Ricky” took courses on Architectural Drafting and Fine Arts.

Most of his assignments, however, were as Procurator of the following communities: San Agustin Center of Studies (1988); Colegio San Agustin – Biñan (1989-1992); University of San Agustin (1992-1994); San Agustin Center of Studies (1994-2000)’ Guadalupe Monastery (2000-2004); 2010-2012). He was also a popular recollection and retreat director, especially for the students of our schools. He was Chairman of the Commission on the Youth and Laity from 1992 to 2000 of the Province, and participated in various national and international Youth Encounters. At one time, he was also the Chairman of the Youth Organization of the Archdiocese of Manila.

On August 11, 2012 Fray Sagum succumbed to a heart attack at Guadalupe Monastery in Makati City. A the time of his death he was preparing to leave for a foreign mission. The members of the Province will always remember Fray Ricky Sagum as a man of great sense of humor, serviceable, with passion for arts, and most of all devoted mentor of the young people.
