Province Celebrates Ordination of Seven New Priests

Ordination to the Priesthood 2024

May 11, 2024—Cebu City, Philippines—The Augustinian Province of Sto. Niño de Cebu celebrated the ordination of seven new priests at the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño de Cebu (BMSN). 

Most Rev. Jose S. Palma, D.D., Archbishop of Cebu, presided over the Ordination to the Sacred Order of Presbyters in the Holy Mass through consecration prayer and hand laying.

The newly ordained priests are Rev. Fr. Alberto Jr. C. Bartiana, OSA from Labason, Zamboanga del Norte, Rev. Fr. Ronelle S. Dogon, OSA from Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, Rev. Fr. Eugenio O. Reserva, OSA from Tubigon, Bohol, Rev. Fr. Albert Benedict B. Soliman, OSA from Mexico, Pampanga, Rev. Fr. Jules Van V. Almerez, OSA from Liloan, Cebu, Rev. Fr. James N. Dosado, OSA from Mandaue City, Cebu, and Rev. Fr. Keith Lawrence J. Ermac, OSA from Consolacion, Cebu. 

Ordination

The ceremony was attended by the Augustinian friars of the Province of Sto. Niño de Cebu – Philippines, led by Rev. Fr. Andrew P. Batayola, OSA, Prior Provincial.

Other notable attendees included Rev. Fr. Dante Bendoy, OSA, Prior Provincial of the Augustinian Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus in the Philippines, Rev. Fr. Bernard Amparado, OAR, Prior Provincial of the Province of St. Ezekiel Moreno of the Order of Augustinian Recollects, and members of the clergy from the Archdiocese of Cebu.

Family, friends, and members of the community also witnessed this significant event.

In his profound homily, Archbishop Palma expressed his gratitude, stating, “We thank the Lord because we know that priesthood is above all, God’s gift.” 

He further emphasized that priesthood is a gift from the goodness of God’s heart, a gift to the ordained, their families, and the community, underscoring the importance of this sacred calling.

The ordination marked a profound moment for the newly ordained priests, who answered the call to serve at the altar of sacrifice.

As they embark on their spiritual journey, the Augustinian community prays that the Holy Child, Señor Santo Niño, will guide them with love and grace in their service to the Church and the community.
